Video: The House of the Immediate Future
Tomorrow, a two-story house that was designed to be a model for sustainability will debut at the Seattle Center. Dubbed the ‘House of the Immediate Future’, the home is more energy effiicent, reduces waste and is easier to build.
Yesterday, we got a sneak peak and produced this video tour. At 1,400 sq. ft spread over two stories, the house has four bedrooms and two baths. It’s built in part with reclaimed materials, features double-wall construction, triple-glazed windows, a rain harvesting system, can be fitted with solar panels, among other sustainable elements.

Thanks to Habitat for Humanity Seattle/South King County for giving us a preview. Construction manager Matt Haight says many of the sustainable features are starting to find their way into commercial construction. He and the volunteers will be working around the clock to get the structure ready for public tours on Saturday morning.
The house will be on display just steps from the Space Needle (east of Center House) through late October. Then, it will be disassembled and rebuilt in Rainier Valley for a low-income family. Here’s more information on the project.
