Lake Forest Park

Custom built by John Burrows in 1958, 2847 NE 183rd St. is a four-bedroom midcentury modern home. Located just north of Seattle in Lake Forest Park, the property is nestled amongst evergreens on a half-acre lot. Updated to reflect a balanced mix of Japanese, midcentury and Scandinavian design, this turnkey home offers a remodeled kitchen, baths, lower level and wash room.

Updated interior spaces integrate seamlessly into the home’s storied style and architecture. Bright oak floors stretch across the home—mirrored overhead by cedar tongue and groove ceilings. Cedar-lined bay windows, skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light, while exposed beams flow from the interior to the exterior. At the main floor’s center, a white brick fireplace is the focal point, and the adjoining living room opens onto an elevated deck. Elsewhere on the main floor, the u-shaped kitchen features exposed shelves, stainless appliances and a gas range.

In the backyard, you’ll find walking paths, streams and wooded areas that inspire a sense of calm. The patio is primed for entertaining or alfresco dining, while a mod outdoor fireplace keeps things cozy under the nearby pergola.

Burrows wasn’t a trained architect, but he was a popular local contractor in and around north King County. Known as a builder with a keen eye for design, he was influenced by modernist architects and specialized in the Northwest Contemporary style. He’s said to have built more than 60 homes between the mid-1950s and the 1980s.
