Stewart and Minor preview events

Stewart and Minor is hosting preview events November 13th if you’re a broker and November 14th-17th if you’re actually going to buy a unit.

Instead of the usual cocktails navel gazing they’re holding a series of smaller events. In fact they might even want to hear what we have to say:

Please join us for an Interactive Preview Event to share your opinions and explore priority sales opportunities for this new concept in high-rise loft living.

I know several of you think this is going to be a flop but I’m optimistic that it will be another unique project along the lines of Mosler and Lumen.

I own and manage Urban Living, a boutique Seattle and Bellevue real estate brokerage. I love lofts, floating homes, new construction, and mid-century moderns, but I will help you buy or sell just about anything!

You are now a bigger RE cheerleader than all the people slinging the condos Matt.

I think I’m gonna start a “flippers losing money” website for condos. Who knows…if I make a good enough one or 20 my websites chronicling the money people are losing might become goldmines in themselves.

Yeah, it flopped, but I think it was gutsy, which I admire and wish we had more gutsy projects as opposed to 5 over 2 muffin tops (of which I bought one!)

EconE, while I certainly would like to see a rosy picture I think I’ve been upfront about my interests and I think I am some what balanced in terms of what I post here.

Echo the Flash comment. Condo development is afflicted with idea viruses

I like the Stewart/Minor concept, but all I have seen is one rendering – and not a good one at that. They’ve dumped a lot of $ into advertising without any substance to pique my interest in the project.

Condo marketing is stuck in the ’90s. If they knew how much they were losing in traffic as a result of Flash because of the lost SEO opportunity they’d switch to HTML in a heartbeat.

RE: Flash – The sites aren’t meant to be informative, they are meant to project an image.

They’re looking to attract a certain kind of buyer. The kind of person that would walk into a new car dealer because they’re giving away free ice cream and walk out with a fully loaded SUV.

Lumen was a big disappointment. I visited the buyer’s center mulitple times and could never get past the fact that the base offering was so bland and unihabitable. You could get a great interior if you spent big $$ on all the fun upgrades. To me the worst is from the outside, zero curb appeal. Not sure if materials changed or what, but the model was much sexier than the final product. It looks like a glass office building with white mobile homes stacked on top. And the worst insult is that they allow QFC to go so crazy with signage – how horrifying to tell your friends that your unit is the one above the giant carrot.

I actually like Lumen more now that it’s built. I didn’t consider it when I pre-bought because I didn’t like the floorplans or interior design aesthetic. I want a u-shaped kitchen and don’t like clear plastic dividers, etc.

Regarding flash, I totally agree. We’ve all seen the marketing crap so many times it’s just noise that’s in the way. Also, the marketing is often focused on typecasting the target buyer, which is a big turnoff and generally inaccurate. What I wanted was floorplans, prices, finishes, amenities, and renderings, not someone telling me that art is life, even though I apparently bought into that theory at Gallery.

I have not posted on here before, but I’ve been reading your blog for a while and really enjoy it. I think you have a very balanced perspective, and I like reading someone writing about condos who does in fact like them and live in one (as I do). A lot of these bubble people can’t handle anyone having anything positive to say about any kind of real estate, it seems.
I personally wish real estate was more about a place to live than some stock market-like investment, which it has become for so many people, and which has caused so much trouble. But that doesn’t mean I don’t still like condos and enjoy reading about new developments.

Does anyone know who is handling the financing for this project? Also if the hotel is going to be a botique.. If it is truely budget like they say… I dont want to live on top of a Best Western!
