Peter Bohlin Contemporary on Capitol Hill
Did your home’s architect also design Seattle City Hall, Pixar Animation Studios, and many notable Apple stores around the world, including the 5th Ave glass cube? This one’s did! So, if you’re looking for some serious architectural bragging rights, this $1,390,000, 3 bedroom, 2.25 bath contemporary masterpiece at 2415 E. Highland Drive is perfect for you.
Designed by Peter Bohlin, recipient of the 2010 AIA Gold Medal (the Institute’s highest honor) and founding partner of Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, this home reflects a commitment to sustainable design and focus on site and user. I love the industrial feel set against its Pacific Northwest backdrop. A structural steel spine running the length of the house supports two decks, perfect for looking out over the eastern slope of Capitol Hill and the Arboretum. The modern structure is not all steel, concrete, and glass, though. Bamboo, cork, and fir provide and natural balance to these hard elements throughout. The only design feature that I really question is the open loft master bedroom. While dramatic and stunning, I tend to prefer a little more privacy. Open Sunday, July 20 from 1-4 pm, if you’d like to see it in person. I will probably have to stop by.
