My visit to Expo 62

On Saturday ‘Daddy-O’ and I stopped by the Expo 62 sales center. Now while they said they had a 100 visitors stop by; when we stopped in Saturday afternoon we were the only visitors.

Here’s a look at their model since they haven’t updated their website with any exterior photos.

In my opinion what’s going to sink Expo 62 is that it’s a Weber + Thompson five over two next to another five over two that isn’t selling. For those unfamiliar with the term five over two, it’s industry speak for 5 stories of wood construction over 2 stories of concrete. One architect I recently had drinks with referred to this type of construction as ‘match sticks over a muffin with vinyl windows.’ Of course I bought a unit in a five over two so I can’t be too critical. But it is important to note that in that neighborhood, Trio, is a very similar building that is arguably one of Seattle’s greatest condo sales failures which most people chalk up to the construction type.

I was also a little worried about the bold color selections available for the cabinets but supposedly it’s all the rage in Europe these days.

I do like that some units have showers as opposed to a bath tub.

And for the record I hate their hip marketing speak:

• Listen kitten, what more do you need to know about Expo 62?
• Let’s get together baby.
• Stuff your face, play hard, shop ’til it hurts, then drink up, baby!
• Expo 62 has de Stijl and then some.
• I mean, how can anyone live without stainless?
• You’ll get minid blowing designer tiles for your spa retret…um, I meant bathroom.
