I’m in Manhattan this week for RE Bar Camp New York and Inman Connect so posting will be light.

Chris sent me this New York times article about lobbies here, The Come-Hither Lobby:

My favorite meal in Manhattan was probably Jean Georges. L’atelier de Joel Robuchon was awesome too. I did the tasting menu at both. Be prepared to spend some fairly serious cash at either place, though.

The Flatiron Lounge on 19th between 5th and 6th is a rather interesting place to have a few drinks.

For food I highly recommend Barney Greengrass for a causal brunch/lunch – smoked fish to rival the best of what Seattle has to offer, just with better bagels.

Hangawi has one of the most unique dining experiences.. great vegetarian food. try the Pumpkin Porridge.

I like Beauty Bar in the East Village and APT in the West. There’s amazing hot dogs at Crif Dogs on St. Mark’s.. ask around about the bar with a secret phone booth entrance nearby.

eats – Lupa is a must do. Mario Batali’s lower end restaurant, good prices by Manhattan standards, and the food is insane. If Blind Tiger ale house is still around I recommend going there for a beer or three as well.

A few recommendations from a local:

Indian: Curry Leaf, 27th and 3rd.

Chinese: Congee Village, allen and delancey(?), joe’s shanghai for noodles, or for the best 5 pork dumplings for $1, try dumpling house at delancey and eldridge

Mexican: Mole, at houston and Allen.

Drinks: Campbell’s apartment in grand central, around 3pm, before the happy hour arrives (as seen in Gossip Girl, according to my wife).

I work just around the corner from Campbells. Let me know if you’d like to meet up tomorrow for a drink at Campbell’s (I’m a former dot-commer, current Redfin browser, and Seattle native looking to move back to the NW).

Wow, Matt’s blog sure has a sophisticated readership. As a native New Yorker (well, okay, Hackensack), I concur with lots of the above, especially Jean Georges, Barney Greengrass and the Campbell Apartment. Re cheap eats, try the Corner Bistro in the West Village (331 W 4th St.). For a fun speakeasy experience, try Chumley’s Bar, 86 Bedford St., also in the West Village (but no sign ‘cuz it really was a speakeasy).
