Get Your Tickets for the Pike/Pine Tour!
Have you heard of the Pike/Pine Tour yet? It’s a fantastic tour through the Capitol Hill neighborhood that anyone can purchase tickets for. It’s official name is “Pike/Pine Tour: Change on an Urban Scale” and it lasts about 2 hours – rain or shine!
As we all know, the Pike/Pine corridor is the midst of a building boom. That means new construction and vertical expansion. And while developers and city planners are acting in reaction to the new wave of tech residents and transplants, the result is that the neighborhood is not only growing, put perhaps moving away from a culture that has been historically known as something very different.
Pike/Pine began as a quiet residential district. It was the home of Seattle’s first “Auto Row” and later became of epicenter of the local LGBT community. Of course we still see these sentiments from the colorful crosswalks and art-clad walls, but we’re also starting to see several new construction projects, some of which that are even trying to recognize and commend the area’s history through advertising and branding, such as Pike Motorworks for example. But the question on everyone’s mind is, “Can this character actually be preserved amidst new development?” And it’s a great question.
If you think you have the answer (or you’re still full of questions), then you should absolutely purchase a ticket for the Pike/Pine Tour. The tour will lead you through the corridor and provoke your thoughts of the past, present, and future of Capitol Hill.
There is a tour tomorrow, June 11th, from 10:00am – 12:00pm. Advanced registration is encouraged but limited space for walk-ups may be available. Tickets are $15 in advance and $25 for walk-ups. You can purchase them on Stranger Tickets.
If you do attend, share your experience with us via email, Facebook, or on this post! We’d love to hear what you think!
