Bainbridge Island Northwest Contemporary is full of natural wonders

Bainbridge Island, Houses

8298 Grand Ave NE was a custom build when it first sprang up on Bainbridge Island in 1969, and is tucked into a wooded hillside in the way that midcentury Northwest homes do best. Most of its unique layout is built to bring the outdoors in—whether you’re looking out at water views from under a vaulted wood-grain ceiling or getting your hands dirty in the garden.

The second-story main level boasts two large decks: A dining terrace is just off the kitchen, and even includes a pass-through window with a bar-height shelf to keep a social, open-kitchen vibe. That has a peek-a-boo view of the water, but the showstopper, full-view balcony is off the master and is almost as big as the bedroom itself.

Below, a den opens directly to a grassy backyard with its own water view, and gets plenty of light thanks to the hillside. It’s an interesting layout on this level, with a couple of rooms in the back each through their own hallway, but adjoining to a closet and bath—either a guest suite or a way to give offspring a lot of space.
