An Observatory is For Sale (+a Home)!
Amateur astronomers, here’s the house for you! In the backyard is the seller’s third iteration of a backyard observatory. The two-story structure features a traditional rotating metal AshDome with a shutter that opens for the Meade LX200 12-inch telescope. Worried about vibration? The telescope is mounted on its own steel foundation separate from the observatory.
Plus it comes with a house! The house was built in 1976 and is 1,381 square feet with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
Priced at $585,000 you can feel good that the majority of the proceeds of the seller’s estate are going to the Lowell Observatory in Arizona.
How rare is it to see a home with an observatory for sale? I did a search for past sales and looked through a lot of old listings and actually found a handful with them that have sold over the years. So pretty rare, but not unheard of.
