Airy modern house includes a DADU and a secret hideout
7030 16th Ave NE was designed by former University of Washington Department of Architecture senior lecturer Andris Vanags, and it’s full of surprises, including a secret hideout stashed behind one of its five bedrooms.
In this playful design, no two rooms are alike, although they do all carry a Northwest Modern vibe with clean lines, wood-slat accents, and sloping ceilings. The living and dining areas even extend into the outdoors, sharing a large, L-shaped covered deck. The kitchen opens up to a built-in barbecue and stairs down to a patio.
If you don’t have dibs on the room with the built-in hideout, try the master suite perched on the top floor, lined with floor-to-ceiling windows and complete with its own sitting area and wood stove. There’s another home within the home, too: A downstairs studio has its own kitchenette, a patio entrance, and plenty of space.
