Capitol Hill Live/Work Carriage House
I have a secret to confess about this Carriage House on Summit. When I first moved to Seattle, eons ago, I coveted this home so much that there’s probably an FBI file somewhere with photos of me stalking it! The charming tree-lined streets provide decent cover, but I drove by at least once a day for months. I doubt it went entirely unnoticed. Alas, they never posted a For Rent sign when I was looking. And, sadly, I’ve since bought a house and can’t convince my husband to move now that it’s finally on the market. (Believe me, I asked.) Some other lucky soul will win out on this one…for now.
The upstairs one-bedroom unit in this traditional tudor is bright and sunny with large windows and French doors overlooking a lush garden. There’s a deck and patio directly off the living room, and additional gardening space on the roof, if you’re so inclined. A sneak peak into the kitchen hints at a remodel with updated appliances, but I’ll take points off for the remaining laminate floors. The real gem, however, is downstairs. There are three garage bays fronted my carriage doors, one of which hides actual parking. The other two house a large, open room with half bath, adaptable to your home business or studio and permitted for up to two employees. Live here. Work here. You never have to leave! Of course, should you want to, it’s a less than 10-minute walk up to the shops, restaurants, and movies at Broadway and Roy, and a 20-minute walk down Lakeview to Eastlake or South Lake Union. It hardly gets more perfect. Well, maybe if it were less than $3,200/mo.
