What I don’t understand is why people build houses like this in a neighborhood full of old classical homes. Just look at the two houses next to it. They are old craftsman bungalows. Why would you want an ultra modern house sandwiched in between? It’s a nice house, but it looks really ugly in the neighborhood that it’s in. It sticks out like a sore thumb.

Kevin, people build houses in a neighborhood like that because it is a desirable place to live and the world changes over time. Just look at the two houses next to it! Neither are craftsman bungalows. The house on the left is a low cost pre-depression (late 20’s) home, one of thousands of identical houses throughout the city. The home on the right is a very cheap post-WWII small scale house (late 40’s), of the type that was decried at the time as being a cracker box and a hovel.
I do agree that it DOES stick out like a sore thumb, as much as by its size as its style. I don’t see how a 3 BR 2+ bath house at over 2600 sq. ft. could be called minimalist. It’s a monster, one of several in a neighborhood of homes mixed in size, style and age.
Who knows, in a decade or so, maybe the modern houses will outnumber the old homes and the old ones will seem ugly by contrast. The world changes and ugliness is in the mind of the beholder.
