Houses, Magnolia

Designed by Ira E. Cummings in 1959, 4219 28th Pl. W is a midcentury modern gem that has been cherished and thoughtfully updated over the years. Situated on the northwest side of town, in the Magnolia neighborhood, the three-bedroom home offers fantastic accessibility to Ballard, downtown and Discovery Park—the city’s premier green space.

Just inside the home and up a few steps, the east-facing main floor is covered in windows that run the entire length of the wall. The upper level’s low-slung roof is lined with exposed beams, and sweeping views of nearby Fremont and Phinney Ridge can be enjoyed from the living room, dining room and kitchen. Past the fireplace and through the glass sliding door, the elevated deck offers space to relax, entertain and/or garden. On the other side of the living room, another door opens onto the back patio. The home’s Henrybuilt kitchen was more recently updated, but planful considerations were made in order to maintain the home’s period charm.

In addition to the home’s family room and laundry room, the primary ensuite is also on the lower level. Private and cozy, the master suite features a large floorplan with seating area, updated windows and a functional walk-in closet. The ensuite spa bath was designed by Seattle’s Kerf and features two, sustainably built plywood vanities, as well as a glassed-in dual-headed shower.
